Title: Center of Attention

dorksidefiker
Fandom: X-Men
Table/Prompt: Table 3/91. Drama
Character/Pairing: Megan/Nezhno
Rating: PG
Word Count: 274
Summary: Megan’s the center of all kinds of attention, and Nezhno’s not alright.
Authors Notes/Disclaimer: Sequel to Options.
Megan was one of six women who had gotten pregnant during the bout of Majesdane Flu, and she was the youngest. This made her the center of a lot of attention. She was loaded down with advice, questions, congratulations, and pity from those who thought life as she knew it was ending. Which it kinda was. The only person who wasn’t constantly checking on her was, unsurprisingly, Nezhno. She was pretty sure that he wasn’t avoiding her, but he wasn’t seeking her out. He was polite enough, asking the appropriate questions when they did speak, but… it was like he was keeping his distance.
Megan didn’t really get why until Nezhno disappeared for a week. She didn’t see him again until her twice monthly checkup with Dr. McCoy.
Nezhno was there, in McCoy’s lab, in a bed. His skin looked ashen, his blue eyes (something she’d long considered one of his best features) dull with pain. Their eyes met briefly, and she looked away first.
“You okay?” Megan asked.
Nezhno just looked at her. It was a weary look.
“You’re getting worse?” she hazard.
Nezhno nodded. “How is…?” he raised a hand, gesturing towards the slight protuberance of her belly.
“It’s a boy,” Megan said brightly. “Dr. McCoy says he’s healthy.”
“Mutant?” Nezhno asked.
“Too early to tell without these risky tests that I don’t wanna do. But he’s gonna be okay.”
“Good.”
