Tina Minoru wrapped her hands around a hot cup of tea. Catherine Wilder watched her, her chin pripped up on her knuckles. “Reading tea leaves?” she asked.
Tina looked up, her face blank. There were dark circles under the witch’s eyes, and it took several moments for her to respond. “I only read Earl Gray.”
It was the same answer Tina always gave, an old joke that sounded so flat and wrong this time. “Tina - are you…?”
“I’m alright,” she said. “Just… I keep thinking we should have started Nico’s training sooner. We should have told them all sooner instead of letting them find out like this-!” Tina’s knuckles went white as she clutched the cup of tea. “When I was her age, I was already well into my training.”
“They’re resourceful kids. Otherwise, we’d have caught them by now.”
“We keep saying that to each other, don’t we. I think the only one who isn’t worried is Leslie.”
“She is an actress,” Catherine said, feeling the urge to play devil’s advocate.
“She’s a vicious bitch and coming from me, that should say something.”
