Kevin inspected the little pillows that covered the bed as if he expected them to explode at any moment. They were tiny, and pink, and drowning in lace. Of course, they matched the decore of the room, which was in the Cozy Cottage Inn. It had been Gwen’s decision to stop there. Kevin would have been perfectly happy to sleep in the car again, but Gwen had threatened to peel all the paint off if they didn’t stop somewhere with real beds and a shower.

Real beds and showers, Kevin could get behind. But did it have to come with useless little pillows that smelled like old lady perfume?

“There are creepy teddy bears in my room,” Ben announced from the doorway. He paused, looking around. “Not that yours seems to be any better. It smells like Aunt Helen in here.”

“Car’s lookin’ better an’ better,” Kevin mused.
