Title: Match part 1
Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Gaara/Hinata
Prompt: 5. Your precious person
Word Count:
Rating: PG
Summary: It was a good match.
Author's Notes: Set post-Rescue Gaara arch.
It was a good match, everyone in Konohagakure agreed. Hyuuga Hinata’s bloodline was elite, but she had no stomach for leadership, and it was clear her younger sister was favored to be the next head of the family. And he was Kazekage.
There could be no better match for her, or for Suna and Konoha.
If Hinata did not smile and laugh, well, she had always been a quiet one, prone to fading into the background. And if she kept darting glances at Naruto, well, the ninja was loud in all he did, including wishing the couple well and making jokes that made everyone blush (and caused Sakura to smack him).
And if Hinata looked scared as she followed Gaara to the house her family had given them?
Well.
Who wouldn’t be scared to be alone with Sabaku no Gaara, former host of Shukaku? She had seen him crush Rock Lee’s limbs on a whim, and kill three Rain nin without a moment’s hesitation.
She stood trembling at the bedroom’s threshold, watching Gaara unstrap the gourd and prop it up in the corner. He gave her a curious look. “Are you coming in?”
Hinata swallowed, her eyes dropping to the floor. “Y-yes,” she stammered, taking the tiny step forward that brought her into the bedroom. She peeked at Gaara through her eyelashes. “K-kazekage-sama-”
“I think it is safe enough for you to call me Gaara.”
Hinata blinked, looking up a bit. Was he teasing her?
He stood in the middle of the room, watching her, his face unreadable. She ducked her head again. She could feel blood rushing to her face, staining her skin crimson. Suddenly, a pair of feet appeared in her view. Gaara put his fingers under her chin and gently pushed her face up. His expression was inscrutable as he brushed his thumb along her jaw. “You wish it was him? Naruto?”
Hinata trembled and tried to look away, but Gaara wouldn’t let her. “Kazekage-sama, I-”
“My name,” he said slowly, “is Gaara.”
“I-I-I’m sorry.”
“Are you scared of me, Hinata? Tell me the truth.”
She met his eyes, almost as pale as her own, and gave a very small nod.
“Wise of you. Can I tell you a secret?” He leaned close, his lips brushing her ear. “You scare me.”
Hinata stared blankly at the wall as Gaara put his hands on her shoulders and buried his nose in her hair. “I swore to love only myself,” he whispered. “Your Naruto helped me break that vow.”
“He’s not mine.”
“Because he is blind, deaf, and stupid.” Gaara hissed in her ear, a hand coming up to play through her hair. “And it is his loss.” He wrapped his other arm around her waist, pulling her close. Hinata whimpered, closing her eyes. “I’m scared of you. Seeing him hurting you hurts me, and makes me angry with him. I do not want to be angry with him.”
“Why would it hurt you?” Hinata asked.
“Because.”
Gaara let her go, taking a step back. He looked her up and down, then brought his hand back up to caress her cheek, then her lips. “I offer myself, and all that I am, and all that I have, to you.” His lips twitched. “A pitiful offering, but it’s what I have. I hope you will accept it, Hinata.” He parted her lips with a finger and kissed her, slow and coaxing. He pulled away again, watching her. “Get some sleep,” he said, dropping his hand again. “We leave for Sunagakura in the morning.”
Gaara moved to go past Hinata, but he stopped when she reached out and touched his arm. “You’re going?”
He regarded her silently, then picked up his gourd. “I’m not going to force you.”
You forced me into this, she thought. You made an offer my family couldn’t possibly refuse. “Where will you sleep?”
“I probably won’t,” he said simply. “I usually don’t. Old habits.”
“Oh.”
He slipped out of the room, leaving Hinata alone with her thoughts.
