Title: The Duty
Fandom: Original
Table/Prompt: Table 5/1. Fate
Rating: PG
Word Count: 190
Summary: Xanthe’s on the phone with her mother.
“Mum, hey! How’s Greece? Oh, that does sound lovely. Bring me back something? Well, I was thinking of something more like a novelty plate, actually… No, Mum, no boyfriend. Please, you say that like I have time. You know what the duty’s like. Yes, I’ve met the new vicar, no he’s not married, no I don’t think he’s interested. Hell, I don’t think he’ll last a month here. No training, no spine.
“God, Mummy. Mum. Mum! I’ve got years yet, and even if I never do, the family always provides. It’s not like the legacy always passes from parent to child. Mum. If it’s meant to be, it will be, one way or another.
“No, I’m fine. Well, you know how it is. When are you coming home? I know. No, I understand. Tell my brothers I said hi. No, they never call. Do you really think they’re going to come here to visit? They hate it here, God knows why. Why are you laughing, Mum.”
