Summary: Warlord Shank really does love his daughter, but life's just not that simple.
In his own way, Warlord Shank could not possibly have been more proud of his daughter. Unlike his sons, worthless creatures that were mostly dead from the war with the humans, the female had proven to be ambitious and clever. He loved and valued her, and not just as a powerful tool or as a vessel from which the next generation would spring.
But his life was far too complex, far too complicated for him to allow his personal feelings to get in the way of what he needed to do for the sake of his position, for the sakes of all those who followed him.
Elmira was his daughter, but she was one life, weighed against the good of many.
If he could have done things differently, he would have.
