Terry closed his eyes and focused on his breathing, adjusting his tie as he did so. He knew he had to keep his mind clear of all outside thoughts and influences, or risk losing control. He could not lose it, not here and not now.
“Dad.”
“Terry. What are you doing here?”
His father’s fear kept pressing in, trying to get through the cracks in his control, demanding he change.
“Don’t worry, I’m not staying,” Terry said flatly. “Just listen to me, though, okay? You need to get Billy and get out of here for a few weeks. It’s important. Please.”
“What’s going on, Terry?”
God, he could taste the fear in the air.
“Dad, please, just trust me on this.”
