Torunn watched as Hawkeye fell on the pile of fresh fruit he had gathered up the way Pym fell on new video games. She giggled, and he looked up at her through a fringe of ash blond hair, scowling in a way that he thought was fierce. “What?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone eat fruit with so much enthusiasm before,” the young goddess said, propping her chin up on her palm. Hawkeye sliced a lemon in half, raising it to his mouth. “That one’s sour,” she warned.
Hawkeye eyed the yellow fruit for a long moment, then took a big bite from the juicy flesh. His eyes went wide, and he made a strange noise, almost a squeal, before swallowing hard, rapidly blinking what Torunn suspected to be tears from his eyes.
“Didn’t see much fresh fruit back in Ultra City,” he said, his voice slightly choked. “Didn’t see much fresh anything.” He took another bite of the lemon, almost moaning with delight. “Are there more of these?”
