Alex was still waving goodbye to his mother and Lex when the elevators closed. He finally dropped his hand and looked up at Owen, who was staring stone faced, straight ahead. Someone had re-programed the elevators to play Richard Cheese; personally, Alex suspected his father was behind it. Quietly, he shuffled his feet, then scratched his face. The false hair and spirit gum that helped him maintain the illusion of being a wolf-man didn't actually itch, but it felt like it should, so he scratched. Owen continued to say nothing, even as the elevator finally reached the parking garage. Alex bolted out of the confines, past his father's collection of expensive cars and motorcycles and right to the Frankenmobile.

Alex wasn't sure what the car had originally been, besides scrap. It was, in fact, one of Lex's projects that he'd occasionally been allowed to help on. It was old, and ugly, and completely unlike everything else in the garage. Alex loved it. This was not a car people expect Alexander Xanatos to ride around in.

He beat Owen there and stopped, one hand on the handle as he watched Owen cross the garage, bouncing from foot to foot. He caught an expression flash across the blond's face, an almost grin that was all Puck.

The official story was that, in a effort to be a bit more grounded in reality, Alex was going Trick or Treating out in the suburbs, with normal kids who's parents didn't have enough money to buy small countries. With Owen to escort him, there was no possible way he could get into any real trouble.

The reality was that as soon as they were a few blocks away, it was time for the Puck to play. As far as his mentor was concerned, Halloween was the perfect time of year to get some practice in; people were expecting the strange, so nobody noticed. Not that they didn't go around getting free candy too. After all, what was the point of Trick or Treating if you didn't get the hard won candy, too?

"Tonight," Owen said, unlocking the car door, "we give these people a real Halloween."
