The baseball sailed across the plate, and Megan made a disappointed noise. Nezhno looked up briefly, then swiftly looked back down. He had been invited to play, an invitation he had refused. He didn’t play baseball, and he wasn’t interested in it, really.
There was a crack, and Megan let out a squeal of triumph before darting to one of the bases. Nezhno continued to stare resolutely at his book, ignoring his classmates. He thought he was doing an excellent job until Cessily flopped down by him.
“You sure you don’t wanna join us?” she asked, flipping her shiny red pony tail over her shoulder.
“Very,” Nezhno assured the girl cooly as Victor picked up a bat, swinging it a few times before stepping up to the place. “I have no interest in playing baseball.”
“Alright,” Cessily turned her attention back to the game, but didn’t rise from her seat beside Nezhno. The boy didn’t see any reason to object.
