Summary: A look at the start of Billy Wagner and Teddy Altman’s relationship from Teddy’s point of view.
Authors Notes/Disclaimer: I own nothing. From the Saga of Billy Wagner.

Teddy Altman was good at people. He’d been studying them most of his life, trying to figure out how best to get them to like him. He’d also learned how to spot when someone wasn’t right about a person. He was always trying to be what other people wanted, so he saw that in others. One look at the fidgety, dark haired boy told him what he was seeing wasn’t the truth. He kept to the sidelines, kept his face turned away from people, and kept touching his watch; not as if checking the time, but to make sure it was still there. The way he held his hands was odd, too, but not in any way that Teddy could place. He wasn’t really listening as Captain America talked about the responsibilities of powers, how it was important that they act like the heroes they wanted to be.

All this because he answered the call on a message board asking for anyone who could help hold off extra dimensional invaders while other tried to rescue the adult heroes who’d been taken. He’d actually fought side by side with Iron Man. And now he was at the Avengers Mansion and paying more attention to some guy in the corner that he didn’t know than to Captain America.

It was hard for Teddy to get close, but he was nothing if not tenacious. Finally, after what felt like ages of stalking the boy, he was close enough to get a really good look at him, Up close, he finally recognized the underlying bone structure. “Hi.”

The boy spun moving in a semi crouch and stepping away from teddy. He looked Teddy over and relaxed slightly. “Hi.”

“I think we met, kinda? At that warehouse?” Teddy said. “You were there with the speedster? Billy, right?”

Cautiously, the boy nodded.

“I’m Teddy.”

“William! It’s time to go!”

Billy straightened up, looking past Teddy, who turned to follow the line of Billy’s sight. The Scarlet Witch raised a hand in a beckoning gesture, and Teddy turned back to Billy.

“Coming, Mom!”

Suddenly, Billy wasn’t there anymore. There was only the smell of ozone.

It wasn’t that hard, now that Teddy had more than just a first name, to find out about the mysterious Billy. There still wasn’t much, but it was more than he’d had. It helped that the Scarlet Witch was a tabloid magnet. Wanda Maximoff, after a brief marriage of dubious legality to her android teammate Vision, began a very public relationship with the X-Man Nightcrawler, eventually marrying him amid rumors of a pregnancy. She’d then disappeared for over a year from public life before returning to the Avengers. There were a few blurry pictures of Wanda and her husband with what speculation said was their children, but no one had ever been able to get a clear shot. Finally the couple had announced that yes they had been blessed with twin sons named Thomas and William, and asked that people please respect their privacy. A daughter, Talia, had come along a few years later, along with a renewed request that the family be left alone, accompanied by several unfortunate paparazzi who hadn’t been willing to listen.

There wasn’t much more than that, and it only served as fuel for Teddy’s growing facination.

“Not too stalker-ish,” Teddy muttered to himself.
