dorksidefiker
Fandom: Young Avengers
Table/Prompt: Table 2/48. Inside
Character/Pairing: Sarah Altman, Prince Dezan
Rating: PG
Word Count: 350
Summary: In which Mrs. Altman gets a visit from her foster son’s uncle.
Authors Notes/Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Sarah Altman bounced up and down as she drummed her fingers on the entirely too tiny, spindly coffee house table. Prince Dezan was peering curiously at the contents of the cup in front of him. He was looking like a perfectly average human, and not like someone who could bring the life she had been building for herself and her charge. He peered at her through his eyelashes in a way that reminded her of Teddy when he was yanking her chain and wondering if she’d realized it. She’d never interacted with the Emperor’s younger brother when she had served the princess, but she’d heard rumors of madness at best, and idiocy at worst.
Watching him now, Sarah wasn’t sure what to think.
Dezan leaned back in his seat, head cocked slightly. “I’m not staying,” he said. :There are too many people who are too… interested I me. But when I heard…”
“How did you find me” Sarah asked quietly. She’d worked so hard to cover her tracks.
“When you grow up with the brother I have… had…” he said, “you learn to be tricky. I supposed… I just wanted to see. Does he know?”
“No, and I don’t plan to tell him.” The weapon was in her purse, she could get it, shoot him -- she wasn’t wearing the face known as Sarah Altman, so as soon as she got into a crowd, she could disappear. He was a threat to Teddy, to their life. And she’d worked so hard…
“Probably for the best,” he said. “For now, anyway. This kind of thing never stays secret forever.”
“What will you do?” Sarah asked, clutching the purse in her lap.
“I’m going to go back out there, see what I can make of what’s left.”
