clayin, and finally (at long last) posted.
Henry Lang glared sullenly as Kate and his mom locked the electronics away. No cell phones, no Blackberries, no game systems, no computers, nothing. Just them… and nature..
“Kate, please,” Will said, a hint of a whine creeping in to his voice. “What if-”
“You trust Ted, Gert, the others? We all agreed to this,” Kate said in a we need to set an example for the kids tone. Hal watched with interest as Will pulled Kate aside to speak more privately. Hal studied the box; his father and Chase and the Other Victor had developed it specifically to counter cyber paths like Hal.
And now it was being used to insure that Hal was going to participate in an entire weekend in the woods with no electronics. It just wasn’t right.
“Ohmygod -- look at you!” Hal was nearly knocked off his feet as Ray-Ray nearly tackled him with a hug. She grinned at him, raking her fingers through the tangle of green hair on top of his head. “When did you get all grown up and cute?”
Hal stood there and let Ray-Ray hug him as she babbled on about how much fun this weekend was going to be. He caught Nate giving him a smirk before Becca ordered him to get back to putting the tents up.
“Ray-Ray, stop groping the jail bait and help!”

“So damn bored,” Hal announced, leaning against Nate and looking up at the auburn haired boy’s face with a miserable expression. Nate made a sympathetic noise, then turned his book so Hal could see the page. They could both hear the sounds of the others training, but Nate and Hal weren’t involved. Hal was there because Mom was there, and Mom thought Hal needed to get away from the Computer. Nate was there because he wasn’t willing to let Hal suffer alone. He could have stayed in the city with his other father and Jeff, like Dexter and Ben had. Instead, he was in the stupid woods keeping Hal from losing his mind.
Bruce went flying over the trees, landing a few feet away. The gamma green werewolf rolled to his feet and howled a challenge; a roar answered him, and then Bruce was off, claws digging up clods of dirt as he loped off into the forest again.
“Becca’s distance is improving,” Hal noted.

Will was glaring sullenly at the stack of firewood he and Hal had been ordered to gather. Despite all his efforts, it remained stubbornly unlit. He hadn’t resorted to magic yet, but it was only a matter of time. Nate had gotten shanghaied in to a water run with Ray-Ray and Hal’s mom while Becca and Bruce terrorized the local wildlife and everyone else hunted for edible vegetables under Kate’s watchful eye. They had actually brought edible food with them, but this was part of the whole getting back to nature thing Kate and Cassie were enforcing.
Hal hated it, and it looked like Will didn’t like it either.
“So, how’s… uh… Claire?” Will asked, seeming to remember that Hal was there and desperate for a distracting from his failure at making fire.
“Gone,” Hal said. Claire had been nice, but she had ultimately decided that Hal was just too weird. He hadn’t been too broken up about it.
“Sorry to hear that.”
“I think I like boys too,” Hal added.
“Congratulations,” Will said, nudging a bundle of sticks with his foot. They both paid no attention to the bucket of water hitting the ground, and Nate snickering quietly as Ray-Ray helped Hal‘s mom back to her feet.

Bobby lead the way through the woods, lighting the path in the dark. Hal glanced at Nate, who trudged along just behind his older brother. None of them spoke, even this far from camp. None of them wanted to wake any of the adults, alerting them to the little expedition. Hal snorted; most of the so called Young Avengers were legally adults, and had been for a while. Nate and Hal were actually the youngest ones there, both being fourteen.
And now they were going skinny dipping out in the middle of the woods.
By the time they got to the lake, Bruce and Wally were already there, stripped down to their shorts and daring each other to jump into the water.
“You wussies!” Bobby taunted, shucking his own shirt, then squirming out of his jeans with a very deliberate wiggle of his hips. Unlike the other two, he hadn’t been wearing any underwear. Hal took a moment to just enjoy the view. Bobby was crazy, and a jerk, but Hal had to admit that he was very nice to look at. Both Bruce and Wally had looked away as Bobby strolled to the water. He was alone there for only a few moments; a sudden breeze followed by a splash and a yelp announced Ray-Ray’s arrival.
Hal was halfway out of his clothes when an all too familiar voice cut through the crisp night air like a knife.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Bobby’s light spell floated up, illuminating Becca standing there in a t-shirt that reached her knees, her feet bare. To absolutely no one’s surprise, she was scowling.
“Busted,” Nate muttered, zipping his fly back up.
“It’s called fun, Becks,” Bobby valled from the water. “You may have heard of it?”
“Only you would call getting naked with a bunch of other people ‘fun’,” Becca retorted, echoing Hal’s thoughts. Not that he was about to say anything about agreeing with her; Becca was The Enemy in as much as anyone not actually a super villain was an enemy.
“Whatsa’matter, Altman?” Bruce asked, teasing in a none too gentle tone. “Afraid to bare it all?” He waggled his still clothed hips in a manner that he imagined was provocative, but to Hal just made it look like he was trying to hard. Becca’s eyes narrowed, and Hal saw her jaw tighten. Either she was about to drown him, or --
It turned out Becca wasn’t wearing anything under her t-shirt, which she carefully draped over Bruce’s head before diving in to the water with her brother and cousin.
And Hal just stared. It was one thing to see naked women through the filter of the internet; seeing a real live girl completely in the buff, close enough to touch was a whole nothing thing. And it was different from seeing a naked guy. Hal had seen Nate naked tons of times, and Naked Bobby really wasn’t all that different from Clothed Bobby.
“Please,” Nate whispered, managing to get in to that one word a wealth of communication. This is BECCA the She-Demon, don’t stare at her, she’s lame! Hal shook his head, making a face before wiggling out of his clothes and running for the water. Both Bruce and Wally were both still standing there, staring after Becca.
