“Yes or no?” Julian asked, shaking the Magic 8-Ball. It responded with Signs are hazy, ask again later.
“Dammit, that is not an answer.” He shook the Magic 8-Ball again, only to get the same result. With a snort, Julian put the orb down just as Sofia slid into his office. Her bald head was wrapped in a brightly colored scarf, and she looked almost transparent in the sunlight streaming through the window. She smiled, and Julian found himself smiling back. “Hey, Beautiful.”
Sofia tilted her head slightly, tossing the end of the scarf over her shoulder. “You have been planning something.”
“I plan lots of things,” Julian replied. “So?”
“You should perhaps hide your credit card receipts better,” Sofia suggested, picking up the Magic 8-Ball and giving it a shake. “I know you’ve been jewelry shopping.”
She put it down, letting Julian see the ‘Yes’ finally bobbing to the surface.
