They all looked so damn young.
Beyond the pain making her vision swim, beyond all thoughts of Victorious, that was what kept going through Gertrude Yorkes’ head as she tried to tell her friends what needed to be done. It was strange, since she hadn’t seen most of them in years, that she still thought of them as her friends.
They’re just kids. What am I doing, laying this on them?
Chase was holding her so carefully, like he used to before she’d shoved him away. She’d actually started talking to Chase again when Vic-
Victorious. That thing was never human, didn’t deserve a human name
-before Victorious had finally shown his true colors. One of the first things he’d done was present her with Chase’s head. Apparently, Chase had been some kind of potential threat to Victorious.
It was so very strange.
She had planned to track down young Victorious herself, but she was dying and she knew it, so she had to lay the burden down on her younger self’s shoulders.
At least the last thing she would ever see was chase, alive and well and safe. For now, anyway.
