Kevin took a step back, away from Josh, shaking his head. “This was a mistake,” he said.
Josh folded his legs beneath him, watching Kevin with the oddly unsettling calm he had developed since letting the Cuckoos implant all that medical knowledge into his head. “Was it?”
“Yeah,” Kevin said firmly, “it was. You can’t help me.”
“You thought I could,” Josh replied.
“That was before you asked me to take off my clothes. Then I realized you’re just a huge freak.”
“A huge freak who might be able to recreate the effects of that mutation suppressing drug you took, but only if you let me help you.”
Kevin looked at Josh with narrowed eyes. “How did you know about that?”
Josh shrugged. “I actually talk to people. Like, you know, Cessily. It can be very informative.”
