“No,” Julian said flatly, laying his hands on his desk as he stood up and leaned forward. “No way in hell.”
“It’s not like you could actually stop me,” Victor replied, clearly unimpressed by Julian’s attempt at Alpha Male posturing.
“Wanna bet? It’s bad enough that the Avengers poached the Cuckoos. They don’t get to have YOU, too.”
“Julian? This really isn’t your decision. I’ve already talked this over with Ms. Frost and Mr. Summers. I’m just telling you in person because you’re my friend.”
“But the Avengers are so lame!”
“They’re respected and respectable,” Victor countered. “I kinda like the idea of not automatically being hated and feared.”
Julian’s lip curled up in a sneer. “You’re just doing this because Bi-”
“Julian,” Victor snapped, “you are my friend, but I wear to God if you finish that sentence, I will make you regret it.” He straightened his shirt with a huff, clearly trying to regather his composure. “Don’t be such a drama queen. It’s not like I’ll be far away, and if you need me, I’ll be here.” He looked up and smirked. “I think you’re just jealous because they asked me to join, but not you.”
“Like I wanna be an Avenger anyway,” Julian snorted, rolling his eyes.
