“Heavy is the head that wears the crown?” Tommy suggested. Billy’s eyes glowed briefly, but instead of zapping his twin, he just turned and stalked off with a dramatic swish of his cape. Teddy winced, the offending crown still in his hands.

“He’s still mad at me, isn’t he,” Teddy mused.

“Little bit,” Tommy confirmed.

“When I left, he said he understood,” Teddy murmured, turning the crown over in his hands.

“And you believed him?” Tommy snorted. “Wow, you’re dumb.”

“Go away, Tommy.”

“Perhaps a day to clear your head is in order?’ Dr. Strange suggested as he surveyed the damage his apprentice had done. Billy grunted, glaring evilly at the candle standing at the center of the destruction, which remained stubbornly unlit in spite of the charred wreckage all around. “Billy?”

“Sorry. Yeah. Lemme just clean this up and I’ll-” He gestured to the devastation around him. “Sorry.”

“Nothing to worry about,” Strange said sympathetically. “You’ve done worse,” he noted.

“Not by accident,” Billy corrected, “at least, not for a long time.” He hesitated a moment, then summoned up a broom and began clearing up the debris. “Teddy’s back,” he added in an almost conversational tone.

“So I’d gathered.”

“I always figured it would be you two forever,” Cassie admitted. Teddy looked pained for a moment, and she smiled apologetically. “Yeah, I know, sorry. Insert foot A in to mouth B. But…”

“He would have come with me. He offered.”

“And you said no?” Cassie gaped.

“We talked it out, and we decided… that he needed to keep studying with Dr. Strange, and I needed to be there.”

“Sounds very logical,” Cassie noted, just a little sardonically. “After you left, he disappeared for six months. At first, we thought he’d gone after you.”

“Yeah, I heard about that. Didn’t you find him in New Zeland?”

“I guess it’s technically New Zeland,” she said. “Kind of. A little. It was just this tiny island in the middle of the ocean. God, you should’ve seen it. Loin cloth.”

Teddy’s lips twitched. “Billy. In a loin cloth. Billy, who gets sunburns if he looks at the sun funny.”

“I think someone took pictures,” Cassie said helpfully. “He didn’t look that bad, actually.”

“Can we start over?” Teddy asked. “I mean, completely from the top. Hi. I’m Teddy Altman.” He held a hand out to Billy. The mange looked at the extended limb, then at Teddy’s face.

“I wish it was that simple,” Billy sighed. “But it’s not.”

“I know. But I figured I should at least try. Can I join you?” He nodded to the tiny coffee shop table. He would never admit it, but he’d put a lot of effort into finding where Billy got his morning caffeine injection these days.

“Can I stop you?”

“You know better than that. Please?”

“I was just leaving, actually. I’m taking a vacation.” He stood up, clearing away three cups of coffee. “I need to get away for a while.”

“It’s not me, is it?” Teddy asked, following Billy out.

“It’s not just you,” Billy said. “It’s a lot of things. You’re not helping, but… yeah, it’s not just you. I need to get my head together.”

“Oh.”

“I’m going tomorrow. Do you wanna get dinner tonight?”
