“I read your book,” Billy announced to Victor the next time they met. He paid for Victor’s latte and headed for the door. “Walk with me.”

Victor followed the spell caster, inhaling the mingling scents of vanilla and hazelnut. “So, what did you think?” he asked. “Do I have a career writing tell alls?”

Billy inhaled his Chai before finally answering. “I read both your books,” he admitted. Victor stopped walking, his drink half way to his lips. “Why didn’t you just tell me?”

“I’m told that I have a nasty habit of getting involved in unhealthy relationships,” Victor told the other man, not really looking at him. “Getting involved in some kind of love triangle would have been so much worse.”

“So harboring a crush and saying nothing is more healthy than, say, dating Amadeus Cho?” Billy rolled his eyes.

“Like I could have been more transparent?” Victor retorted sharply. “You just didn’t notice because you were so wrapped up in being BillyandTeddy.”

Billy dropped the paper cup in his hand into a nearby garbage can. “Do you still feel that way?”

“I should never have written that damn book.”

“Yeah, but you did, and I wanna know. How do you feel about me?”

Victor sighed softly, feeling something akin to a headache coming on. “Jesus Billy, way to put a guy on the spot.” He buttoned up his jacket against the rising wind, which sent leaves skittering down the sidewalk. “You’re… one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. You’re smart and you’re handsome and you’re nice. And,” he added, “you drive me nuts.” He looked up and the sky, pursing his lips. “I’m not saying this right.”

“Maybe we should start again?” Billy suggested.
