When Dorrek was being completely honest with himself, he didn’t like the way William’s bodyguard looked at his consort. He liked even less that William was spending more and more time socially with his bodyguards (but especially Victor). Not that he didn’t appreciate that being around those people made his beloved happy, but…
But he saw the way Anole looked at William, and if the reptilian mutant was one bit less honorable, he was certain that he would have betrayed Dorrek’s limited trust long ago. And that was a thought that the emperor did not much care for.
Now William expected him to ennoble Victor. Dear Gods, there were days when Dorrek felt like he was living in some kind of low budget melodrama.
