Terry picked up the single card that had been laid out before him on the cafeteria table, holding it between his fingers. “And this means… what?” he asked.
“Hold on, lemme check the book,” Mary -- who had recently taken to calling herself Dominique -- started flipping through the little booklet that had come with the tarot deck, and had slid out onto the table when she’s pulled out the cards. “Okay, um…. the Fool is the card of infinite possibilities. He is on his way to a brand new beginning, but he needs to stop daydreaming and fantasizing and watch his step, lest you fall and end up looking the fool.”
“Uh-huh…” he said skeptically. “Y’know, I don’t think this is how tarot readings actually work.”
“Don’t be so closed-minded,” the girl said, pulling out another card. A demon leered at Terry from within the drawing, making him roll his eyes.
