Franklin Richards buried his hands in his pockets and walked faster, catching up with May and looking around with guarded curiosity. As long as he could remember, he’d been actively working to keep his powers under control, to keep the thoughts of others from intruding on his head, and from putting his own thoughts into theirs. For the first time in his life, he was completely alone in his head, just like everyone else. “Huh.”
“First time walking down a city street?” May teased.
“As just another person, yes,” Franklin replied seriously. “I usually fly.”
“Yeah, I’ve noticed. So, enjoying being normal?” she asked with a little grin.
“For me,” Franklin admitted, “this really isn’t. But… at least it’s quiet. For the moment.” May gave him a look, and he explained. “I’m one of the most powerful telepaths on the planet. A lot of my energy is devoted to not hearing what other people are thinking. With my powers gone, it’s… just me up here, and it’s kind of scary.”
May nodded. “I get it,” she said, thinking back to the period when she’d lost her own powers.
