Lazaro approached Victor, his hands clasped behind his back as he looked up at the statue of their fallen mentor.

“I thought I would find you out here.”

Victor marked his place in his book, even though the action was more out of habit than any need to find the spot again. He knew Born Normal backwards and forwards, and had read this particular copy so often that it was falling apart.

“This really isn’t healthy,” the much taller boy went on. “All this brooding and moping in graveyards. Before you know it, you will be wearing all black and hanging out with Kevin.” He sighed. “It is going to rain soon, and I do not trust you not to just tilt your head back and let yourself drown, the way you have been acting lately.”

“I’m not that bad,” Victor protested, pausing a moment before adding, “am I?”

“Yes, you are.”
