Author:
dorksidefiker
Fandom: Young Avengers
Table/Prompt: Table 2/52. Lock
Character/Pairing: Kate, Tommy
Rating: PG
Word Count: 300
Summary: In which Kate as a lot of time to watch and think.
Authors Notes/Disclaimer: I own nothing. Part 23 of Bitter Homecoming.
Kate craned her neck, trying to look at the locking mechanism of her cell. Most of it seemed to be imbedded in the wall. If she’d still had her cybernetic arm, this would have been cake. Unfortunately, the Skrulls had taken away everything from the broken false arm except for the base connectors in her ruined arm socket. Victor Mancha had supervised the operation.
Tommy was watching her, his face carefully blank. He’d stopped talking after the second day. Kate had no idea where they’d taken Jonas, but she maintained the hope that he was still alive. After all, they hadn’t killed her or Tommy.
In fact, the hold seemed to be full of familiar faces. A guy who she’d met in LA, Ricochet or something, had actually managed to escape briefly, causing no end of chaos for the next week while the Skrulls tightened security.
Teddy came by every day. Usually, he said nothing, just looked at her with something like an apologetic expression. The rare times Billy -- William -- came by, it seemed there was nothing in his eyes but cold calculation.
She saw the same look on her two former friends’ daughter. That and raw contempt. Teddy could be reasoned with, or at least so Kate hoped, but not those two.
When -- and Kate kept telling herself that it was when -- she got everyone out, it would have to be when those two were either away, or had been removed from the picture completely.
