It was the bathtub that convinced Teddy that the apartment was the best of the lot that he and Billy had looked at. It was a huge old tub, something Teddy could lay down in and completely submerse himself if he so wanted, and it had little clawed feet that you just didn’t see on newer tubs. It was also big enough for two people.
Sure, the apartment that came with it was a little run down, but it was nothing he and Billy couldn’t handle. A little fresh paint, some caulk on the windows, rugs to cover up the splintering hardwood floors, and it was perfectly livable.
It would have been much easier if one of the previous tenants hadn’t been a wizard who had taken great pains to make the place a null-magic zone.
They spent the first day scraping layers of old paint off the walls.
The ancient air conditioner died around noon.
After hours of work, Billy finally threw down his paint scraper. “I need a bath.”
“Yeah, me too,” Teddy said, watching Billy for a moment before following. Billy just grunted.
Teddy’s thoughts were entirely on the lovely large bathtub and christening it properly. Billy, he soon learned, had other ideas. Not that he realized this until they were both naked in the tub and Billy hand his hand on Teddy’s face, pushing him away.
“I’m tired, Ted. I want to wash, and I want to sleep. That’s it. Understood?”
Teddy nodded, pulling back like a chastised puppy.
