Summary: There’s someone lurking in the shadows.
Authors Notes/Disclaimer: I own nothing. Another tale in the Saga of Billy Wagner.
Teddy Altman was away of something moving in the shadows. He caught the odd movement out of the corner of his eyes, but it would be gone before he could turn and see it fully. The hairs on the back of his neck were standing up, and every minute in the dark, echoing warehouse was making him feel more and more paranoid. If this weren’t so important, and if he didn’t want so badly to not look like a complete baby in front of all the young heroes and wannabes that had gathered there, he would have run screaming. Who knew what it was he was seeing? For all he knew, they were being spied on by the creatures that had taken out most of the adult heroes already.
“Billy, stop being such a dweeb!” the white haired speedster who had been hitting on everything in a skirt shouted, almost making Teddy jump out of his skin. He jerked around to look where the speedster was looking -- in the shadows of the rafters, just outside the range of the lights. Something up there moved, like a large cat. A tail ending in a spade swung briefly into view, twitching twice, before being drawn back into the shadows. “Bi-illee~!”
A Slushie dropped from the rafters, narrowly missing the speedster.
“Stop being a brat, Tommy.”
Teddy squinted hard; he could just barely make out a man sized shape crouching in the shadows. There was a faint glint of golden eyes as the mysterious Billy tilted his head slightly.
“Watch it, doofus!”
The figure in the shadows swung down suddenly, landing in a crouch beside the speedster. Unlike most of the young heroes gathered there, he wore dark cargo pants, and a long sleeved t-shirt that clung to his lithe frame. A thick head of dark blue black hair almost covered a pair of delicately pointed ears. The hair was only a few shades darker than Billy’s skin, which was a dark blue. He rose gracefully from his crouch, revealing himself to be nearly the same height as the white haired speedster, and closer inspection showed Teddy that, aside from the coloration, the two looked amazingly similar. Billy’s tail lashed back and forth as he and the speedster started whispering furiously at each other.
“Dude, stare much?” Tommy said suddenly, startling Teddy. As suddenly as he’d appeared, Billy was gone.
“I-- sorry. Sorry,” Teddy repeated, backing away. His eyes resumed searching the shadows for the dark figure even as he did so.
