Much to Rina’s shock, Hudson’s large hand closed around her wrist as the ground gave way beneath her, washed away by days of heavy rain. His other hand dug into the trunk of tree anchored more firmly to the cliff side. For a moment, as she dangled in the open air with only her half brother’s grip keeping her from plummeting to the river hundreds of feet below, her heart stopped. The driving rain plastered her normally untamable hair to her head and face, making it hard for Rina to see Hudson’s expression.
All he had to do was let go, and he’d have their father and his legacy all to himself, just like he’d always wanted.
Vertigo nearly overwhelmed Rina as Hudson swung his arm around, tossing her on to the cliff above, then climbing after her. “A little higher,” he growled over the storm, “and I can call the Avengers for a pickup.”
Rina gaped at Hudson for a moment, then began climbing. “Right!”
