Soi Fon watched Yoruichi’s hand drop to caress the rim of her cup, a far away look in her eyes as she stared out into the night. Her lady often stayed up late into the night, preferring the soft darkness to harsher daylight. Yoruichi turned her head slightly, meeting Soi Fon’s eyes. Her gaze was veiled, mysterious, and oddly distant. Like she was looking at a puzzle that refused to be solved.
“My lady?”
“Drink with me, Soi Fon,” she said softly. “I don’t want to drink alone tonight.”
