Hanataro smiled at the guards, nodding to them as he went past, carrying the tray for Rukia’s breakfast. The guards gave him the same blank looks they always did. Never stopped him from saying hello, though. Maybe, someday, someone would smile back, say hello, something.
Rukia, at least, acknowledged that Hanataro existed. But she was as guarded as they were, in her way. She wasn’t letting him any closer than the guards outside.
