Ursa sat in her garden, watching the butterflies flit by without really seeing them. Her mind was racing, sorting through the options open to her.
They were so few, so damn few.
She would not allow Azulon to murder her son for Ozai’s pride. She could take Zuko and run… but where? Ursa had no illusions about herself – she had never known life outside the sheltering walls of her family estate or the Palace, and Zuko was even less prepared for life outside than she was. If Iroh were here now, perhaps he would aid them, but he was far away, and mourning the loss of Lu Ten.
One of the butterflies caught fire, drawing Ursa’s attention back to the world immediately around her. Ozai was watching her, his expression cool, even though his eyes burned with something that terrified Ursa.
He knew what she would do, even if she refused to admit it yet.
