Terry looked out his bedroom window, trying to work out what was wrong with the view. He pursed his lips, trying to figure out what it was that was wrong, what had changed. It was watching the new green leaves on the trees that made him realize what was different… or more accurately, what wasn’t.
Mom’s garden hadn’t bloomed. Mom had loved that garden so much; it was her pride and joy. This time of year, the garden should have been a riot of color. Without her care, it had all withered and died, even the hardier perennials.
“Oh god,” he whispered, a hand pressed to the window glass, blinking back tears. “Oh god, Mom, I’m so sorry.”
