He got his mother’s voice mail.
“Oh thank God.” Victor cleared his throat. “Uh, Mom, Dad, hi. It’s… well, it’s me. I just wanted to let you know that I’m alright. I’m in San Francisco.” He chuckled nervously. “Yeah, um. I.” He paused. “I wanted to say that I’m sorry, and-”
The voice mail beeped, cutting Victor off just before the words left his mouth.
“I love you.”
