Cessily just stared at the food in front of her, chin resting on her palm. The food continued to sit there, unmoved and unmoving, taunting her. She didn’t actually remember the last time she’d been hungry. Before her mutation had manifested, she was sure. Cessily missed being hungry. It would have made her feel like less of a freak if she could just eat, like everyone else. She missed her Mom’s meatloaf, and milkshakes, and strawberries…

“You gonna eat that?” Brian asked, pointed to Cessily’s lunch. She looked at it a moment longer, then shoved it across the table to the boy.

Aww. I liked this. You picked up on a lot of the neglected Cessily pain (I want to say angst, but it's not really, because she works around it most of the time and doesn't fully wallow in it even when she can't) here and did it well.
