“Whoops…”
Jay’s head shot up, and he looked at Odie sharply. “ ‘Whoops’?”
“Nothing,” Odie said, attempting to look innocent and failing completely. Behind the boy, a small gout of flame burped forth from the oven. Jay gave the oven a wide eyed look, backing out of the kitchen.
“Athena,” he said slowly, “is gonna kill you.”
“She doesn’t need to know,” Odie said desperately. “I can fix it!”
“It was nice knowing you, Odie,” Jay told him. “Is there anyone you want me to tell anything?”
“Okay, now you’re just being a jackass.”
