Authors Notes/Disclaimer: Another tale in the Saga of Billy Wagner.
Wanda picked the tattered red mantle up, holding it delicately between two fingers. “Billy…” she said, a hint of warning and disapproval in her voice, “didn’t I tell you to get rid of this>?”
Her son dropped off the ceiling, twisting as he landed, and snatched the crimson rag away. “It’s lucky!” he insisted.
“Darling, it’s a rag,” Wanda pointed out, exasperated. It was like the Battle of Binky all over again. That thought did not bode well, since Billy had actually won that one. “We can get you something much nicer.”
“I don’t want something nicer, Mom, I want this one.” Billy shook the mantle out. There were little burn holes running down one side, and stains that refused to come out. Tommy kept making jokes about it ending up like Binky, which had finally just dissolved in the wash one day.
Wanda was sorely tempted to help this one along. It wouldn’t have been the first time she’d made some of Billy’s clothes disappear for the sake of getting him to wear something that didn’t have holes. He could be fastidious about everything else, but when it came to his clothing…
“Maybe something with a collar?” Wanda suggested. Billy rolled his eyes, clutching the red rag to his chest.
