Summary: Karolina’s finally going in search of Xavin, and Nico can’t go.

“I don’t like the idea of you going out there alone,” Nico said, reaching up a little to tuck some of Karolina’s hair back behind her ear. Karolina sighed, giving her friend a soft, sad smile and pulled her into a hug made awkward by the extended bump of her stomach.
“I won’t be alone,” Karolina reminded her. “Bill and Tedd will be there, and we’ll be meeting up with Vic.”
“I should be there,” Nico insisted, even though she knew she couldn’t go to outer space in her condition. “Hell, you shouldn’t be going.”
“I have to,” Karolina said, not for the first time. “I have to find out what happened to Xavin. This may be my only chance.”
“I know, sweetie. Promise me you’ll be careful out there?” Nico cupped Karolina’s face before pushing the blonde’s hair back again. The shorter style kept falling into her face when she forgot her hair clips, like now.
“I’m always careful and I always come back.” Karolina planted a kiss on Nico’s forehead. “But I need to do this.”
“You’ll be back before the birth?”
Karolina hesitated. “I’ll try.”
