Benji sat with his head resting his hands, peering, at Wally through his fingers. “She… she’s going to kill me soon, isn’t she? No, never mind, don’t answer that. She wouldn’t tell you -- you frown when she starts talking death.”
“She’s not gonna kill you, Ben.”
“You don’t know her like I do,” Benji said. “She doesn’t believe in second chances. Anything she sees as a threat, she squashes with extreme prejudice. There won’t be enough left to bury when she’s done with me.”
“I’m married to her, Benjamin,” Wally reminded the other man. “I think I know her pretty well.”
“Then you know she’s gonna kill me, and you’re just trying to lull me into a false sense of security. She’s never gonna trust me ever again. Oh God…” He finally raised his head. “I’ve never… not been an Avenger. Dad was big on the whole solo thing, but I’ve always been on a team. Now I’ve got nothing, and an Altman-Kaplan wants my head on a pike. She’s gonna get Nate to use an orbital death ray on me.”
Wally sighed softly. “If she was gonna kill you, you’d already be dead.”
Benji licked his lips. “Okay, yeah, I’ll give you that. But I’m off the team, yeah?”
Wally nodded. “You fucked up huge, man. Literally. Bobby’s… gone, Becca’s pissed, and you should be more afraid of Ray-Ray than Becca, by the way.”
“And what does Dex think?”
“He’s run off to Wakanda again.”
“What about you?” Benji asked.
Wally steepled his fingers, pursing his lips. “I want to strangle you.”
