Summary: Jono’s relationship with his father is… strained, at best.
Author's Notes: I own nothing. Part of my Clan Akkaba series.
“You don’t actually expect this to come to anything, do you?”
Jono didn’t bother to look up. He knew perfectly well that his father would be wearing his customary mocking sneer. He couldn’t recall ever seeing his father actually smile, though he must have done at some time. He grunted, since he knew the old bastard would be expecting some kind of response.
“You’re a fool,” Abraham went on. “You’re a great fool if you think you’re going to make it. And with your aunt’s old beater of a guitar. Bloody thing can’t keep the strings taut for more than a few chords.”
Jono grunted again, tuning the guitar even as his father complained about it being unable to stay tuned. He picked at the remains of a bumper sticker that had slowly peeled off over the years. His aunt had stuck it on there, a few years back. Once upon a time, it had ready Infinity welcomes Careful Drivers. All that remained was fin come rivers. His father was looking at him silently, a particularly disagreeable look on his face.
“Done yet?” Jono asked.
“I had to have a long talk with your headmaster.”
Jono smiled to himself, the expression mostly hidden behind his hair.
