“But why are you leaving?” Megan whimpered, looking up at Rahne through her eyelashes.
“It’s complicated, Megan,” Rahne said, taping the last of the boxes shut. “Are you going to help me carry these out?”
“You don’t have to resign, do you?” Megan asked insistently. “We all miss you. Please come back?”
“It’s already done, honey.” The red haired woman hefted one of the boxes and smiled sadly at her former student. “I just came to get the last of my things. Be good for Xi’an, and stay out of trouble.”
Megan wrapped her arms around Rahne’s waist and squeezed tightly.
“I’m sorry.”
