Meet me on the roof after school
May crumpled the note she had found stuffed into her locked and frowned at Felicity, who was perched on the edge of the school roof, her legs stretched out in front of her. The girl tucked a few pale blonde hairs behind her ear and pulled her legs up so they were under her.
They watched each other silently for a moment that seemed to stretch on forever.
“So,” May said, a little more sharply than she had intended, “what’s this about?”
Felicity stretched her legs out again, pushing herself up so that she was supported only by her hands. “It’s about Gene,” she said, all in a rush. “You shouldn’t be dating him. It’s a really bad idea.”
May stood there, her face in shadow as the sun slowly sank behind her. “This is just too much,” she sighed, rubbing her forehead.
“I mean it!” Felicity nearly shouted. “He-he’s a big jerk! A big controlling jerk who’d just crush everything about you that makes you great and stuff. He doesn’t want a girlfriend, he wants a mirror that’s gonna reflect his glory back at him!”
May sighed, still rubbing her forehead. She could just feel a headache coming on. “What the hell brought this one, Felicity?”
The girl plopped back down on the edge of the roof, dropping her eyes away from May. “I just… he’s no good for you May, and I hate seeing how miserable he’s making you.”
