Johnny sat by the tree, watching the lights blink on and off. Peter sat down next to him, a cup of hot chocolate clasped in his hands as he tried to remind them that he was no longer outside, attempting to swing through sleet. “You’ve been staring at the tree since you got here.”
“We don’t really do Christmas at home,” Johnny said after a very long moment. “The only tree up is in Ben’s room. It’s one of those aluminum things, you know? With the spray on snow and stuff.”
“This one’s plastic,” Peter pointed out. “It spends most of the year in the basement. Wolverine slept on it once.”
“Can I stay here for Christmas?”
“Your family might have something to say about that.”
“They’ll barely notice.”
