“Why are we leaving?” Deanna asked sleepily as Xavin strapped her in to the seat. “I like it here.”
Xavin paused a moment, tucking stray hair behind her daughter’s ear. “It is very complicated, my little star.”
“You always say that,” Deanna whined. The shuttled rocked violently as something impacted on the side, and Deanna cried out.
“Xavin,” Karolina shouted from the cockpit, “we have to leave now!”
Xavin looked into her daughter’s eyes and saw them harden, a little more of her innocence dying as the Skrull watched. “I’m so sorry, my star.”
