Title: Gender Bender
Fandom: Runaways
Characters: XavinxKarolina, Nico, Chase, Victor
Prompt: 34. Ambiguity
Word Count: 171
Rating: PG
Summary: So which is it?
Author's Notes: I own nothing.
“So, are we supposed to call Xavin a boy or a girl?” Chase asked, darting a glance at Karolina and Xavin as Karolina tried to explain the importance of Twinkies to the extraterrestrial. Victor grunted in a very annoyed way and Nico sighed, her lower lip caught between her teeth.
Part of the problem was that Xavin was constantly shifting between one form and another, only sticking with the female appearance when Karolina was around. Xavin showed a clear preference for a masculine form the rest of the time, but Karolina got upset whenever someone called Xavin by male pronouns, and Molly had started calling the shape shifter her ‘big sister’, no matter what the form.
“I vote for ‘it’,” Victor said.
“I thought you were going to make nice with Xavin.”
“When Xavin’s nice to me, I’ll be nice to it.”
