There were times when Karolina wondered how much of what she saw of Xavin was an act put on to please her. These were thoughts that only seemed to come to her late at night, when Xavin was asleep, but she felt restless.
Karolina loved Xavin… but she’d loved the illusion her parents had given her, too. And they had managed to fool her completely for most of her life.
She didn’t like those thoughts, and she tried not to think them… but there were times when they just would not go away.
