Author's Notes: Part of my That Damn Mpreg series.
The death of the Queen Mother sent the whole of the Empire into official mourning for a month. Lady Karolina had been generally well liked, and much of the outpouring of grief at the memorial services was genuine.
The actual funeral was a quiet affair held on the planet of her birth, where her ashes were scatted to the wind, glittering faintly like diamond dust while her surviving friends and family spoke of times past.
“They are like brief candles in the night,” Xavin said to Ted Altman as they both watched Ted’s husband. “They go out too quickly.”
“God, Xavin, that’s depressing.”
“Indeed.”
