Title: Changes
Fandom: Runaways
Characters: Karolina Dean/Xavin, Victor Mancha
Prompt: 55. Transmogrify
Word Count: 333
Rating: PG
Summary: Things have changed a lot for Karolina and Xavin since Victor had last seen them.
Author's Notes: Part 9 of Bitter Homecoming.
It took Victor Mancha several moments to register what exactly he was seeing, but when he realized what he was looking at, he acted quickly.
“Wait wait wait stop shooting you egg sucking sons of mammals!” he snapped at the soldiers under his command in Skrullos. “Stand down, let her land!” It took several repetitions of the order before the shooting finally stopped, something he was going to have a long chat with certain people about, later.
Thankfully, either Karolina Dean was very good at dodging, or the Skrulls under Victor’s command were very bad shots.
She landed in the middle of a circle of guardsmen, each one with a weapon trained on her. She ignored them all in favor of Victor. “Hey, Vic. Or am I talking to Victorious?” she asked.
“I’m not entirely sure myself,” Victor replied. “I thought you and Xavin got off Earth while the getting was good.”
“We did. We came back. We thought we could help,” Karolina said bitterly.
“Where is Xavin?” Victor asked quietly, moving inside the ring of guardsmen, stepping towards the alien woman who had been his friend, a lifetime ago.
“The Skrull Kill Krew found us,” she said, her tone flat and her eyes hard. “And you know what they do to Skrulls.”
A collective shudder ran through the Skrull soldiers around them. Stories of the Skrull Kill Krew had spread throughout the Empire since the last invasion, held up as proof that there was something truly wrong with humanity.
“The Resistance or whatever they call themselves have brought them in,” Karolina went on. “They’re on their way here now.” She bared her teeth in something that tried to be a smile. “So I’m here to help you.”
“Welcome aboard, K.”
