William winced slightly as he sat down. “We were starting to think you weren’t going to come, Victor,” he said, watching the cyborg, studying his reactions and making a note of them for future reference.
Victor watched William right back, his normally expressive green eyes unreadable. “I almost didn’t,” he admitted. “But I suspect that Her Highness would have made me her new hobby... And we both know what happens to people who become her hobby.”
“That is my daughter you’re talking about,” William noted dryly, watching Victor’s lips turn up ever so slightly. “And she’s your goddaughter, as you might recall.”
“Gee, I wonder where she gets it from, then.” Victor looked down at the battle plans laid out in holographic detail. “I’m still not sure about this,” he said softly. “You want me to become… him.” A shudder ran through the cyborg. “I thought I’d found peace out there.”
William shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “Peace comes at a price, Vic.”
“Everything does. So, where is everyone?”
“We’ve captured Tommy, Kate, and Jonas,” William said, ticking off on his fingers. “Eli’s dead – not our fault, for the record, it happened before we came back – and Cassie’s gone so far underground that nobody knows where she is. Nico’s in Tibet, running a magic monastery of some kind. We’ve already negotiated a non-aggression pact with her. Klara, Molly, and Chase are holed up at Xaviers, along with most of the X-Men. They’ve been fighting a guerrilla war against us, but once we take out their base…”
“Xavin and Karolina?” Victor prompted.
“We’re still looking for them, but we’re pretty sure they’re still off world. According to Nico, they left a little while after you did.”
Victor read the battle plans over, even though they were upside down and in Skrull. “You need me at Westchester,” he said.
“We could use you in lots of places, Vic. You don’t have to go there.”
Victor grunted. “It’s where I’d be able to do the most good. I know those three better than your soldiers.” He looked at William, lips in a thin line. “Lets go be bad guys.”
