“Ewww…” Molly shuddered and made a face as Klara vigorously scrubbed the newborn as clean as she could with one of Nico’s petticoats. Victor was talking soothingly to the mother, and Nico was keeping her distance from the whole mess, looking decidedly unsettled. “It’s nothing like on TV.”
Klara inspected the squalling newborn boy. “Healthy looking,” she pronounced. “Easiest birth I’ve ever helped with,” she added. “My grandmother used to bring me along when she went to deliver babies. She always said that I was very helpful.”
Victor looked up. “We still need to get them to a hospital,” he said. “We are so not equipped for this.”
Klara nodded, holding the baby out to his mother.
