Summary: Once again, it’s all Billy’s fault.

Eli looked at the little white cat that had, for some reason, decided that Eli’s lap was the best possible place to take a nap. “What the hell?”
He prodded the cat with a finger, causing it to roll onto it’s back and bat at his hand.
“Where did you come from?” he asked, though he honestly didn’t expect to get an answer (despite that one time when Billy made all the animals within 50 feet of him talk). He scooped up the cat and stood, looking around. “Kate? Did you decide the Lair needed a mascot?”
It was a few moments before Eli got an answer, when Kate emerged from wherever she had been hiding. “Aww… where did she come from?”
“That’s what I want to know,” Eli said as Kate claimed the cat from him and started making baby noises at it. “Jesus Kate, could you be more embarrassing?”
“I like cats,” Kate said with a sniff, scratching the purring beast under it’s chin.
“Yeah, they’re real great,” Eli muttered, brushing at the white hairs that now clung to him as if glued there.
“Looks too well fed and clean to be a stray, but there’s no collar,” Kate noted. “I’ll run her by the shelter later to see if she’s been chipped. Who’s missing you, sweetheart?”
That was about the time Billy arrived, looking flustered and scratched up. “Oh thank God you found him!” He reached for the cat, who kissed and lashed out at Billy with it’s claws.
That was when all the pieces fell into place for Eli. “You turned Tommy into a cat,” he said flatly.
Billy blushed and dropped his gaze to the floor. “It was an accident. I told Tommy to leave that string alone, but he didn’t listen!”
