The smile dropped right off Karolina’s face as she took in Billy and his Hazmat suit. “You get infected once --once!-- and you treat me like Typhoid Mary for the rest of forever?” she asked.
Billy paused thoughtfully, the face mask fogging up slightly as he did so. “Better safe than sorry,” he finally said. “Last time, I ended up in a pile with a bunch of junior X-Men.”
“Yeah, yeah. You wimp.” Karolina rolled her eyes, shaking her head.
“It’s not wimpy to not want to spend a week dealing with Ponn-Farr!” Billy protested. “Xavin said you’re probably still a carrier, and if you go through the infectious stage again…”
“Billy, if you don’t get out of that suit right now, I’m taking the spell book and going home,” Karolina said flatly, holding the aforementioned book up like she might hit him with it.
With a grunt, Billy pulled the gloves off, followed by the cowl. “If I get the flu from you again-”
“You’ll never let me hear the end of it? You don’t already.” She handed Billy the book. “It’s from Nico’s parents collection. We’ve been raiding their stuff.”
Billy flipped through the book carefully, pursing his lops. “It’s all in Hebrew. Who writes a spellbook in Hebrew?”
“A Jewish wizard?” Karolina suggested. “Can you read it?”
Billy’s cheeks turned slightly red. “Not exactly. I paid just enough attention in Hebrew School to not embarrass myself at my Bar Mitzvah, but that was it.” He closed the book. “But I’ve still got all the books, and my youngest brother’s cramming for his big day. I can get the beginning of a translation going.”
“Whatever you need to do, Billy.”
